„As a child, I never thought about who I would become—I just always knew I was an artist. Not even a doubt crossed my mind. During my university entrance period, without overthinking, I chose art history. I believe this profession was one of the best choices of my life. I was always drawing— the smell of oil paints, solvents, stretching the canvas over a frame—everything was a normal, inseparable part of my life, yet I was far from an academic environment. At first, I thought that everything I knew about art would, through art history, be arranged into a certain systematic order and that I would have a clear understanding of specific issues. But it turned out—I was mistaken… It was precisely in the learning process that I discovered still fully unexplored medieval Georgian fine art. It was the study of Georgian monumental painting, deep comprehension, and the analysis of stylistic and iconographic characteristics that brought about a major shift in my worldview. One could say that the art of this period is distinguished by inner freedom and naivety. I try to convey exactly this quality in my works.“
