Kyra Lautier is a Maltese actor, illustrator and graphic designer with a strong passion for the arts. After completing her B.A. (Hons) in Performing Arts, her experience in marketing for local theatre productions inspired her to pursue digital art. She devoted this time towards creating slice-of-life webcomics entitled “Kiki’s Log”, illustrating personalised greeting cards, and setting up a RedBubble shop.
Wanting to incorporate her performance background with illustration work, Kyra decided to pursue animation through MCAST’s Digital Design course. Ironically, this course brought out her love for traditional art, resulting in her experimenting with mixed media projects. One such project was a video game Kyra independently made, entitled Gramma Ghost, which was mostly designed using ink on paper and watercolour. Outside of her course and endless rehearsals, she started an Etsy business, Kiki’s Catastrophes, where she designs fridge magnets and mini figurines inspired by pop culture and clients’ original characters.
Following her graduation, Kyra decided to devote her artistic journey towards illustrating her lived experiences as an asexual woman amidst the Maltese queer community. Local projects and exhibitions allowed Kyra the necessary platforms to showcase the positive and severely overlooked aspects within this community. It is thanks to this awareness that Kyra was entrusted by MGRM to design their newly launched sex ed website AskAboutSex.mt / Sess.mt.
