Portrait
„I was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1989. In that year, when my country joined the struggle to restore independence from the 70-year Soviet regime. It was a turning point, both for the country and for the people. A moment when you free your mind from pressure and begin to think rationally and independently. The impressions and emotions of those years would whirl around in my head.
I wanted to create a series of paintings that would depict people’s lives and their environment. What sorrow afflicts an independent person who, on their own, leaves behind the challenges of a new life—where they are responsible for their own present and future, based on their choices and decisions.
This feeling has no ethnicity and is familiar to everyone.
I developed different drawing techniques that combine painting and illustration.
For me, the creative process is like cleaning an archaeological artifact from centuries of sediment: carefully and consistently removing dust until the object finally reveals itself in all its greatness and freedom. I would say that my paintings carry and reveal such freedom by showing human sorrow through telling us about the world’s thirst for comfort and harmony.“
